Redwood City

Status:

Redwood City officials will start negotiating with short-term rental giant Airbnb to collect hotel taxes from its users and remit them back to the city to fund the creation of affordable housing.

The council approved the measure at its Monday night meeting.

So far, Airbnb is the only short-term rental provider the city is working with to collect the tax.

There are currently hundreds of short-term rentals in Redwood City on Airbnb’s website, according to Aknin’s report.

An agreement with Airbnb is expected within the next two months.
